The best time for romance in Venice is at night. As you walk along the narrow streets and squares you can listen to the songs of the gondolieri and the sounds coming from open-air restaurants and cafes. Two cafes in the piazza feature live open-air orchestras that play popular pieces while visitors sip their drinks.
After boat finally empty, to come back to your hotel late in the evening and you can take a short stroll through the narrow lanes with just the sound of your own footsteps for company. You can feel quite safe walking around the city at any hour of the night and there are no districts best avoided.
